Alconera Marble, Spain
The stone of great monuments

Reserves: A deposit for centuries of production
The mining concession for marble extraction in Alconera holds, at just 50 of the approximately 400 m depth, around
18.625 million m³ of marble:
- Grey Marengo, Black Laguna and Black Pinta
21.75 ha x 50 m = 10.8 million m³ - White Alconera
14.3 ha x 50 m = 7.5 million m³ - Red Coralo
1.2 ha x 50 m = 600,000 m³
Marble in abundance to build the legacy of several generations.
Alconera White Marble
- Whitish tone with great ornamental variety, ranging from homogeneous areas to capricious veining with traces of various colours.
- High compressive strength, low porosity, and excellent frost resistance.
- Recommended finishes: high-gloss polishing to maximize brightness and purity; honed for elegant matte finish; flamed and sandblasted for high-traffic outdoor use; aged for heritage restoration.
- Ideal for façades, pavements, and elements requiring timeless clarity and elegance.

Marengo Grey Marble
- Elegant grey tone with homogeneous nuances, very versatile in urban and architectural applications.
- Very resistant to abrasion wear, good modulus of elasticity, and excellent durability in outdoor environments.
- Recommended finishes: bush-hammered and sandblasted for non-slip pavements and urban spaces; honed for sophisticated interiors; aged for historical environments; flamed to highlight texture in façades and squares.
Pinta Black Marble
Black background transitioning to graphite grey with fine mottling (“pintas”).
Physical-mechanical features: high density, low absorption, good flexural strength, and excellent wear resistance in intensive use.
Recommended finishes: high-gloss polishing to emphasize depth and mottling; honed for a uniform and elegant matte; leather/brushed for premium tactile texture and reflection control; fine sandblasted or bush-hammered for high-end non-slip pavements.
Ideal for urban use, lobbies, and high-contrast elements in contemporary architecture.

Laguna Black Marble
- Intense and uniform black, with scarce veining, highly appreciated for high-contrast projects and representative spaces.
- Physical-mechanical features: good flexural strength, high density, and low water absorption index.
- Recommended finishes: high-gloss polishing to enhance color depth; honed for minimalist interiors; brushed to add texture without losing elegance; fine sandblasted for decorative outdoor pieces.
Coralo Red Marble
- Deep red with garnet or purplish nuances and strong natural veining that enhances its distinctive character and visual strength.
- Physical-mechanical features: high mechanical strength, chromatic stability, and excellent resistance to environmental chemical agents.
- Recommended finishes: high-gloss polishing to enhance vein contrast; honed for a sober tone; aged for pieces with historical character; bush-hammered for outdoor floors with strong aesthetics.

Other selections
- The marble deposit for sale in Spain also offers unique areas with veining and chromatic transitions, ideal for luxury projects and highly personalized designs. In the photograph, a veined white with different colors.
- Possible finishes: from mirror-polished to contemporary treatments such as leather finish or artistic sandblasting, in line with the latest trends in high-level architecture and design.
Chemical composition
Analyses by the University of Alicante confirm in all varieties a high calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) content with dolomitic structure and controlled magnesium (MgCO₃) presence.
Traces of silica (SiO₂) and ferrous carbonate (FeCO₃) provide chromatic stability and resistance to external agents.
Thanks to this composition, Alconera marble presents notable mineralogical homogeneity, resulting in low porosity, high density, and uniform technical behaviour.
The similarity between varieties allows harmonious combination in the same project without perceptible differences in performance or durability.

Uses in construction
- Contemporary architecture: High-traffic pavements, ventilated façades, interior claddings, and urban furniture.
- Singular projects: Institutional works, cultural spaces, and exclusive large-scale designs.
- Heritage restoration: Full aesthetic and structural compatibility with monuments and historical complexes, including projects of national relevance.
Marble by-products for industrial uses
Depending on granulometry and processing, these by-products can be presented as:
- Gravel: larger fragments, ideal for drainage layers, structural fills, or sub-bases.
- Fine aggregates: intermediate fractions for mortars and technical concretes.
- Micronized (<10 μm): ultrafine powder for chemical, pharmaceutical, food industries, and high-performance composites.
The industrial potential of these by-products opens additional opportunities for exploitation and diversification.

Aggregates and slates
- The deposit has approximately 67.3 million m³ of aggregates and slates, a large-volume resource with high potential.
- In the region, several aggregate quarries exploit similar materials for uses such as road bases and sub-bases, concretes, mortars, fills, and other civil works.
- In the case of VALEXMAR, no specific quality studies or classifications of these materials have been carried out, as the company’s activity has focused exclusively on marble.
- Therefore, this product range remains practically unexplored, representing an open opportunity to expand the product portfolio and diversify income.
