VALEXMAR announces sealed-bid auction for the María del Carmen quarry

María del Carmen marble quarry in Alconera, Spain, with certified reserves for sale

Over 18 million m³ of certified marble reserves with concession extendable until 2086

VALEXMAR S.L., owner of the historic María del Carmen marble concession in Alconera (Badajoz, Spain), has officially launched the sale process of the company through a sealed-bid auction to be held on September 30, 2025. The starting price is set at €2,490,000 — barely one quarter of the appraised value. This represents a unique opportunity for industrial investors and strategic funds.

Marble quarry investment opportunity in Spain

The concession includes the only active quarry in the Extremadura region for marble extraction, with mining rights currently valid and extendable until 2086. Certified reserves exceeds 18 million m³ of marble, including grey Gris Marengo, white Blanco Alconera, Black Negro Laguna & Negro Pinta and Dark Red Rojo Coralo.

Its flat morphology, easy accessibility and low-porosity stone ensure efficient extraction and profitability, with projected returns on investment (ROI) ranging from 30% to 40% annually, depending on the chosen operational model.

Natural stone quarry for sale with certified reserves

While Extremadura has remained under the radar compared to other Spanish marble hubs, it now emerges as a strategic destination for international investors supported by institutional incentives and transparency platforms such as SIGEO.

“This is a debt-free, clean company, ready to operate from day one. Our goal is to offer investors a legally secure and highly valuable asset with the potential to become an international reference in natural stone,” says Ángel Díez, Administrator of VALEXMAR S.L.

ROI projections 30–40%

Beyond its historical significance —with marble used since Roman times in the Mérida Theatre and in landmark projects such as the Bank of Spain in Madrid— the concession also opens doors to high-value industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and agriculture, thanks to the high calcium content of its by-products.

The asset combines chromatic variety, abundant reserves and easy extraction, making it a solid investment opportunity for a broad range of buyers.
